The Moment That Changed Everything
Create an original short film of no more than 90 seconds exploring the human experience behind aortic disease and care.

Aortic disease is often defined by a single moment.
The moment someone recognised that something was wrong.
The scan that changed the plan.
The decision made under pressure.
The intervention that saved a life.
The beginning of life after an aortic event.
The Edinburgh Aortic Summit invites you to capture one of these moments in an original short film of no more than 90 seconds.
Your film should reveal the human experience behind aortic care and tell a story that cannot be communicated through clinical data alone.
Your Film
Your submission may be:
A short documentary
A dramatised scene
An animation
A piece of spoken-word storytelling
A patient or carer perspective
A healthcare professional’s reflection
A creative combination of film, photography, sound and text
This is a creative storytelling challenge. Entries should not take the form of a traditional lecture, presentation or promotional video.
Who Can Enter?
The Challenge is open to everyone, including:
Medical students
Trainees and clinical fellows
Senior clinicians and consultants
Nurses and allied healthcare professionals
Researchers
Patients and carers
Patient organisations
Multidisciplinary teams
Other healthcare professionals, educators and members of the public
Entries may be submitted individually or by a team.
Film Requirements
Films must:
Be no longer than 90 seconds
Be submitted as an MP4 file
Include English captions
Be understandable when viewed without sound
Be original work
Contain no commercial advertising, product branding or company logos
Contain no patient-identifiable information without explicit written permission
Use only footage, images and music for which the entrant holds the necessary rights
Declare any use of artificial intelligence in the creation or editing process
Films recorded using a smartphone are welcome. Entries will be judged on the strength of the idea and storytelling rather than production budget.
Shortlisting and Screening
Up to five films will be shortlisted by the scientific committee.
Shortlisted films will:
Play on rotation across the EAS digital screens
Be featured through the EAS website and communication channels post the event.
Progress to the delegate vote for the EAS Short Film Award
Judging Criteria
Entries will be assessed according to:
Strength of storytelling
Originality and creativity
Relevance to aortic disease or care
Emotional or educational impact
Ethical and clinical integrity
Clarity for the intended audience
The Award
The winning film will receive the EAS Short Film Award 2027,
an official certificate and a £250 prize.
At least one named creator of each shortlisted film must register for EAS 2027 under the applicable registration category and attend the Summit in person.
